Description

IBM iX has been conducting manual systems testing for an extended period. The project aimed to explore the potential of transitioning towards automated Quality Assurance (QA) procedures.

Objective / Success Metrics

The objective of the research project was to provide organized information to the managers of IBM iX. The comprehensive report encompasses an assessment of the benefits and drawbacks of QA automation, challenges linked to adopting automated QA, and a comparison of different QA automation tools.

Approach

  1. Analysis of Current Workflow:

We analyzed the current development and testing procedures of IBM iX's primary business, the digital transformation project for banks. Additionally, we interviewed senior system analysts to understand the challenges faced during manual testing in the present scenario.

  2. Exploration of QA Automation and Tools:

We conducted research on the experiences of implementing QA automation in various enterprises, as well as an analysis of different QA automation tools available in the market. This analysis focused on understanding the impact of introducing automated QA on IBM iX's current business operations, along with evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of different tools.

Results

  1. Advantages of QA Automation:

Our research unveiled a range of advantages associated with QA automation, including enhanced test accuracy, increased testing speed, and efficient utilization of resources.

  2. Navigating Transition Challenges:

The journey towards automated QA entails specific challenges. Automation might face challenges in scenarios with rapidly changing requirements. We identified the necessity for specialized skills to develop and maintain automated scripts. Additionally, a clearly defined testing process is required to ensure seamless integration.

Integrating automated QA could yield a substantial positive impact on IBM iX's business operations. However, the implementation process requires careful planning to mitigate disruptions during the initial phases, and the choice of tool should align with IBM iX's specific needs and objectives.
